Oppo Find 7 preview

Oppo might not have the brand recognition of Samsung, HTC and Sony – but it's punching above its weight in terms of specs. Where its rivals' 2014 flagships all sport 1080p displays, Oppo has raised the bar with the world's first 5.5in QHD display on a smartphone.

Yes, the Oppo Find 7 sports a 2560x1440 IPS LCD display, giving you a retina-scorching 538ppi. It's streets ahead of its rivals' 1080p screens; the HTC One (M8)'s 5in display yields up 440ppi, while the Samsung Galaxy S5's 5.1in display manages 432ppi and the Sony Xperia Z2 pumps out 423ppi from its 5.2in screen.

Oppo isn't the first to market with a 2K smartphone screen – the Vivo Xplay 3S takes that honour – but it has delivered the smallest such display, with the highest pixel density in the world.

The Find 7's spec sheet is on a par with other manufacturers' flagship phones – inside, you get a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC, clocked at 2.5GHz, plus an Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM.

Comparing that with other 2014 flagships, the Find 7 has the same processor setup as the Samsung Galaxy S5, but the Oppo one-ups it with 3GB of RAM – as found on the Sony Xperia Z2.

Internal storage is a little scanty at 32GB, but you do have the option of expanding that by up to 128GB using microSD. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct and NFC – plus LTE, for the first time on an Oppo phone.

The Find 7's removable 3000mAh battery charges through a micro USB port on the base of the phone – the phone also features Oppo's new VOOC rapid charging system, which, it claims, will take you from 0 to 75 per cent battery in half an hour.

Oppo has past form in innovating with camera tech – its N1 phablet featured a rotating 13MP camera for hi-res selfies – and the Find 7 is no exception.

Its main camera uses a Sony IMX214 CMOS sensor with an f/2.0 aperture – but it can shoot 50MP photos, thanks to some software trickery. In Super Zoom mode, it snaps 10 consecutive shots at speed, and then picks out four images to stitch together into a 50MP, 8160 x 6120 still. As well as its party trick, the Find 7 also features the usual array of camera settings, including HDR, panorama, GIF mode and RAW mode.

It's no slouch at video, either; it'll shoot 4K video at 30fps, 1080p video at 60fps and 120fps slow motion video at 720p.

Round the front, you get a 5MP, f/2.0 camera for selfies and video chat. While that's not quite up to the Oppo N1's rotating 13MP snapper, it's still well ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2's efforts.

Sony PS4 review

The Sony PlayStation 4 finally arrives to take on the Microsoft's Xbox One in a next-gen gaming war more drawn out than any product launch we've seen. But in a console battle often fought more on ethics than specs, with the hardware now in our hands, what does it all add up to?

Launched in New York back in February, the PS4 hits the US on 15 November 2013, with the UK having to wait till 29 November to get its game on. But T3's been following it all year, demoing its games for months and have had a retail unit for a few days, with access to the US networks, so we've been putting it through its paces…

Sony PS4: Size and buildThe Sony PS4 is surprisingly svelte for such a serious games machine at 2.8kg, its 275 x 53 x 305mm frame both smaller and lighter than the original PS3 and even its PS3 Slim follow-up. Somehow, there's no unsightly power block to hide either. Next to the Xbox One, it's the clear aesthetic top dog, you'll feel proud to have this in your living room, and it's easily ported around the house.

Looking like a suitably futuristic if unassuming black monoltih, with all vents and most ports hidden round back, the matte/gloss aesthetic is divided by a glowing power line that glows blue at boot up before giving way to a more living room-friendly white.
looks good beneath or beside your telly, whether laying down or, as we prefer, upright (the horizontal-only Xbox One is going to require a bit of under-TV rearranging). It is, however, a little on the vulnerable side – drop one and we don't reckon it will survive.

The connections at the back are now all digital, with an aux port for the optional PlayStation Camera, Ethernet for wired online connections, an HDMI port to hook up to the telly and Optical Audio out, too.

Up front there are two discrete USB 3.0 ports to charge the wireless controllers, beneath the on/off and eject buttons that sit either side of the disc port (6 x Blu-ray, 8 x DVD). It also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the latter syncing the controllers.Despite the more power-packed eight-core Jaguar x86-64 processor and 1.84 TFLOPS AMD Radeon GPU, the console's innards are noticeably much quieter than the current-gen machines. While we're still not talking silent running, a very light hum when games boot up and get overly busy is about as active as it gets.

iPhone 6 wiil launch in August 2014

Good news for you iPhone fans who are asking when the iPhone 6 glide and especially the feel of the iPhone screen is too small when compared to the alternative of the planet Android or Windows Phone because they offer a great selection screen sizes greater than 4 inches , which is the largest screen size of the iPhone at this time .

Although Apple initially had the opinion of more than 4 -inch screen " greatness " but the fact that the market liked the large screen phones such as 5 inches makes Apple eventually changed his mind and even launched a new mobile phone iPhone 6 sooner than previously planned in the month of September 2014 in the knowledge that market they already eroded by competitors because of the screen size .

Well this time no information from Apple component provider from Taiwan that Apple has asked them to start production in June because Apple will launch the iPhone 6 in August 2014.

Taiwanese company Foxconn and Pegatron Apple production partner who is also rumored to have been asked to produce the end of June. Apple plans to launch iPhone 6 screen 4.7 -inch version in August and a 5.5 -inch screen or 5.6 inch in September next .

Low-cost BlackBerry Z3 ‘Jakarta’ now on pre-order in Indonesia

Gadget News ~ BlackBerry’s much-anticipated low-cost Z3 smartphone is now up for pre-order in Indonesia. The Canadian company has produced the Z3 in conjunction with Foxconn and it will go on sale on May 13.

The pre-order price of the BlackBerry Z3 is 2,199,000 Indonesian rupiahs which comes up to approximately Rs 11,500. If the Z3 ever makes it outside Indonesia and to India, expect it to retail in the Rs 14,000 range. At the moment, it’s a limited edition model available only for Indosat and XL customers. In fact, the Z3′s codename ‘Jakarta’ indicated that this smartphone is exclusively for the Indonesia market.

The BlackBerry Z3 was announced along with the Q20 or BlackBerry Classic during MWC. It runs BlackBerry 10 OS (version 10.2.1) and features a 5-inch qHD (540×960 pixels) display offering an aspect ratio of 16:9. It’s a full touch device, so there’s no QWERTY keypad on this one. In terms of processing power, the Z3 is well outfitted, sporting a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8230) processor alongside 1.5GB of RAM. Considering how closely BlackBerry and Foxconn worked on making this handset, we expect performance to be well-optimised for the hardware.

The other specs also point to the BlackBerry Z3′s low-end positioning. There’s a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera and a 1.1-megapixel front shooter. Internal storage is capped at 8GB, which can be expanded further up to 32GB via microSD card. BlackBerry has gone with a beefy 2500mAh battery, which is rated to deliver up to 15.5 hours talk time and up to 384 hours of standby time and we think it will be very close to those numbers, given the non-demanding hardware. Connectivity options include the standard Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, GPS and NFC fare.

CEO John Chen said in a press note that the BlackBerry Z3 was designed “with our Indonesian customers in mind, to keep them productive and connected with family, friends and co-workers while on the move.”

BlackBerry Z3 "Jakarta" Launch This Week

Gadget News ~ BlackBerry will this week launch a new budget handset in Indonesia, one of its last bastions, a major step in the ailing smartphone maker’s fightback against titans Samsung and Apple.

The Z3, which is designed for Indonesia but will likely be introduced in other emerging markets later, is the first new BlackBerry phone since chief executive John Chen took the helm of the crisis-hit company in November.

The handset is also the first to be produced from the Canadian firm’s partnership with Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn, which makes gadgets for Apple, and is a key test of whether the new strategy will work.

The company believes the device will be a hit in Indonesia, where many have remained loyal to BlackBerry, with a spokesman saying that “this product will deliver something that? should resonate with consumers”.

But analysts believe it may already be too late for a comeback by the company that pioneered modern smartphone culture but has been unable to keep up with competition from Apple’s iPhone and handsets using the Google Android operating system.

Recent years have been dismal for BlackBerry, and it has suffered heavy losses and slashed thousands of jobs.

The company even put itself up for sale last year but abandoned hopes of finding a buyer several months later, and ousted chief executive Thorsten Heins.

Since Chen took over, there have been small signs of improvement. The company reported a loss of $423 million in the three months to March 1, which was not as bad as had been feared.

As part of its turnaround strategy, the smartphone maker announced the tie-up with Foxconn in December, which involves transferring to the Taiwan company manufacturing and inventory management, while allowing BlackBerry to focus on software and services.

BlackBerry has chosen to launch its first new phone from the partnership in Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s biggest economy with legions of social media-mad young consumers, where its devices remain popular but it has nevertheless lost ground in recent years.

Low retail price

The phone has a 13 centimeter touchscreen, like most of BlackBerry’s newest handsets which do not have the physical keyboards of the older devices.

It is designed specifically with Indonesian consumers in mind. The BBM messaging service — wildly popular in Indonesia — comes loaded with pictures of local cartoon characters for users to send to one another.

There is also a limited edition with “Jakarta” engraved on it.

BlackBerry believes the low price — it will retail for around $200 — will be a particular selling point.

Previous phones released on the new BlackBerry 10 operating system in Indonesia were more expensive, such as the Z10 which sold for around $700, and received only a lukewarm response.

Online pre-orders, which began on April 28, have been healthy, according to retailers.

“The response is positive and hundreds of units were sold in less than a week after the pre-order started,” said an employee at vendor Global Teleshop, who declined to be identified.

The phone will be launched on Tuesday in Jakarta and will go on sale in the following days.

BlackBerry has refused to say which emerging markets it might take the phone to next, but analysts speculated it would likely be others in Southeast Asia.

But even the picture in Indonesia, one of the company’s healthiest markets, is increasingly dire and the Z3 may be too little too late, analysts warn.

“The launch of this device is really BlackBerry’s final stand in the Indonesian market,” Sudev Bangah from telecoms consultancy IDC told AFP.

IDC says BlackBerry’s market share peaked in Indonesia in 2011 at about 43 percent and remained healthy in 2012 only to suffer a collapse in 2013, when it fell to around 13 percent.

And Bangah said it was unlikely the new device would be BlackBerry’s savior in Indonesia.

“Do we expect a mass exodus to this device? Hardly likely,” he said, adding IDC expected BlackBerry’s market share to fall to around 10 percent this year.

Google Nexus Review

If you're dying to try out Android KitKat, the Nexus 5 is a great way to do it. Without a solid camera or long-lasting battery, however, it's better suited to developers than most users.

Google's Nexus 5 is the company's latest and best smartphone. Manufactured by LG, the Nexus 5 enjoys an incredibly fast processor and is the first phone that features the newest version of Android: 4.4, also known as KitKat. Although KitKat brings some great improvements to the operating system, it's been installed on a phone that, processor aside, is underwhelming. With a weak camera and poor battery life, it's not as dependable as some of the other devices you can buy.

The Nexus 5 features an IPS display slightly less than 5 inches from corner to corner. With 1080p resolution, it is stunningly crisp, vibrant and easy to see from any angle. The display dominates the front of a phone with an otherwise simple design; available in black or white, the Nexus 5 is comfortable to hold, but it's not much more than a rounded rectangle.

That screen provides a window into Android 4.4, the newest version of Google's mobile OS. KitKat brings with it a cleaner, more streamlined interface, under-the-hood improvements to stability and performance, and Google Now accessibility from the home screen. This last feature can be particularly useful; if you're on a home screen, you can simple say "OK, Google" and the phone will react to your voice, without your needing to press a button.

As nice as KitKat can be, especially for fans of Android, the phone's hardware features don't quite measure up to its software. The 8-megapixel camera takes pictures through a surprisingly small ƒ/2.5 aperture. When it comes to aperture size, lower numbers mean bigger apertures, which in turn mean more light hitting the camera's sensor and better-quality pictures. Most modern phones have apertures around ƒ/2.2. Lesser-quality cameras have ƒ/2.4 apertures. The Nexus 5's aperture is the smallest of all the top smartphones we've reviewed, and you can see it in its photos: dull, lifeless and prone to blur.

The Nexus 5's battery is equally disappointing. While you can get about 15 hours of talk time off of the phone, activities that use the screen drain its battery quickly – you'll only be able to watch video or surf the web for a combined total of about five hours before taking the battery to empty from a full charge. Given how often we tend to turn on a smartphone's screen throughout the day, you could have trouble making it through a heavy workday without plugging the phone in somewhere along the way.

LG G2 Review

Pros 
The LG G2 has a bevy of hardware features, one of the best batteries we've seen in any smartphone, and a lightning-fast processor to boot.

Cons 
The phone's button layout can take some getting used to, and some versions feel much more cheaply made than others. Its lack of expandable storage is a huge oversight.

The Verdict

: 8.65/10

It can go days without a charge, it's packed with fun features and hardware, and it has a stunningly beautiful 1080p screen. The LG G2 is one of the best phones you can buy.

 In a smartphone market dominated by Apple, Samsung and HTC, LG hasn't had a flagship device that can viably compete until now. The LG G2 is a big-screen smartphone with power to spare, both in terms of its processor speed and its unusually long-lasting battery. The layout of the physical buttons on the device might take some getting used to, but you'll hardly notice as you're having fun playing around with its great feature set. For its blazing processer, stunning screen and fun extras, the LG G2 earns our TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award. 

You can't get a much bigger screen out of a smartphone without moving into phablet territory; the LG G2's display is gigantic. It packs full 1080p resolution into 5.2 inches, which means text looks buttery smooth and images are vibrant and gorgeous. And since the screen is an IPS display, you'll get superb viewing angles and great visibility, even under direct sunlight – something AMOLED screens can't quite claim.   

Despite that screen, the phone is manageably sized thanks to a thin bezel and the absence of any protruding buttons along its sides. The volume rocker and power button, which can usually be found along the edge or top of a phone, have been relocated to the center of the G2's back cover. The shift is a nice change that can make it easy to access the buttons, but their new placement takes some getting used to. We usually grip phones so our index finger reaches around to the far edge; on the G2, you have to pull that finger back, which takes some practice before muscle memory sets in.

Thankfully, the G2 makes up for its power button's odd placement with a feature we love: Knock On. You can turn the device on by tapping your finger twice against its screen. It seems like such a simple feature, but it reflects a level of responsiveness we don't normally enjoy from our phones. If you're planning to turn your phone on, you're probably going to be tapping at the screen anyway; with Knock On, your finger's already in position, and you don't have to expend the extra effort depressing a physical button.

Despite that screen, the phone is manageably sized thanks to a thin bezel and the absence of any protruding buttons along its sides. The volume rocker and power button, which can usually be found

The LG G2's battery is its trump card: It has one of the longest-lasting general-purpose batteries we've seen on any of the top smartphones we've reviewed. You can enjoy a solid 25 hours of talk time, 12 hours of video playback and perhaps most astoundingly, a full 11.5 hours of web browsing. For phones with big screens, web browsing tends to consume more power than any other activity. This is because most web sites have white backgrounds. Displaying white on a screen uses more power than other colors, so forcing it to display a full-white background for hours on end can quickly shut down your phone. By packing a battery into the G2 that can drive that much browsing time on a 5.3-inch screen, LG accomplished an impressive feat.

In practical terms, you'll never be browsing the web for 11 hours straight, or talking on the phone for a day at a time. The G2's battery should easily last the average user two to three days without charging. Even the most intense, video-watching, web-browsing fiend won't be able to deplete its charge in a day. If you tend to plug your phone in every night before bed, you'll never have to worry about battery power again.

Few phones can best the G2's CPU for pure speed. LG's phone blew our benchmark tests away, and while it can't quite compare to a 64-bit processor, it comes very close. The 2.26GHz, quad-core chip runs the phone's graphically intense interface with perfect smoothness. Intense games, high-quality video and 3D apps are all eaten up, and you'll rarely if ever notice a hiccup or stutter in performance.

One notable weakness of the phone is its lack of expandable storage, something that has become all but expected in modern phones. With 32GB of internal storage (minus the operating system and pre-installed apps), you have a decent amount of space for your content. But if you have a big music library or tend to take lots of pictures and videos, you'll be yearning for that microSD card slot.

What the LG G2 lacks in storage, it makes up for with fun hardware features. Along with all the usual suspects – 4G LTE support, Bluetooth wireless, and the motion-sensing trio that is the gyroscope, compass and accelerometer – the device has a few extra pieces of technology. As with most Android phones, it has a built-in NFC chip. Near field communication lets a phone talk to a compatible scanner at extremely close ranges – touching, or close to it. While uses for NFC are still being rolled out, there are several parts of the country when you can pay for purchases with your phone, just by holding it up to a scanner at the register.

The G2 also has a couple other small but enjoyable features: an infrared blaster and an FM tuner. The tuner will let you listen to local FM radio stations right through your phone. The IR blaster, meanwhile, gives you the opportunity to control your TV, Blu-Ray player and more, just like a remote control.

The goal of our smartphone reviews is to find the very best phones we can, and in the LG G2, we've uncovered a gem. With a stunning display, a lightning-fast processor, fun features and superb battery life, this phone gives and gives. Its lack of expandable storage is a notable absence, but taken as a whole, few phones can compete with it.

HTC One (M8) Review

Pros 
Superb build quality, a gorgeous screen, excellent built-in speakers, a long-lasting battery, a processor that keeps on giving, and a feature set that will warm anyone's heart – these are just a few of the long list of things the HTC One does very well.

Cons 
Its rear-facing camera is almost as much of a disappointment as the camera on the original HTC One.

The Verdict

: 8.9/10

The new HTC One (M8) is, at least for the moment, the best smartphone you can buy. A few hiccups keep it from being perfect, but they didn't stop us from falling in love with this otherwise brilliant mobile device. 

Last year, the original HTC One turned heads. It packed surprisingly decent speakers and one of the sharpest screens we'd ever seen into a gorgeous chassis. True, it didn't quite offer Apple's level of hardware polish, but it was certainly the best-looking Android phone you could buy. It had its flaws – the camera, for example, was pathetic – but it still impressed. It was a contender.

The HTC One is, quite simply, the best smartphone we've ever reviewed.This year, HTC has released a new One. Officially called the One (M8) – parentheses and all – the new variant fixes almost every fault of its predecessor, and improves on those things the former model already did well. Its build quality, for instance, is superb, with a chassis every bit as impressive as what's coming out of Cupertino. Its speakers are the finest we've heard from any phone, ever. We've never once experienced a slowdown or stutter while using it, no matter what apps we've tried or games we've downloaded. Even its HTC Sense variant of Android has been improved, and is a pleasure to look at and use.

    

It has its flaws, of course. Despite packing in some fun and unique new features, the rear-facing camera is still a huge disappointment, capturing soft or even blurry photos that are passable, but don't pack the same punch you'd get from a Lumia device. But an underwhelming camera isn't enough to scare us away from an otherwise brilliant phone. More than a couple reviewers in the office would upgrade right now if they could – the HTC One is just that good. That's why we've given it our TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award.

Samsung Unveils Swarovski Crystal Accessories for Galaxy S5 and Gear Fit

Samsung on Wednesday released its "Swarovski for Samsung" accessory collection for the Galaxy S5 smartphone and Gear Fit fitness tracker.

The Swarovski for Samsung collection will be available on Samsung's online store starting May 8 in Korea, and pre-sales in China starting on the same day. This will be followed by UK availability shortly thereafter. The offline availability through Samsung Stores will start from May 22. Samsung has not detailed exact availability in other regions.

"Samsung and Swarovski share a commitment to bringing high quality, highly desired products to the consumer market, and together, we have succeeded with the Swarovski for Samsung collection," saidChristoph Kargruber, Executive Vice President Global Marketing, Swarovski Professional.

The collection includes crystal-encrusted Galaxy S5 covers and Gear Fit 'Charm Sliders'. Samsung says that Swarovski Crystal Fine Rocks are completely integrated into the back cover of the Samsung Galaxy S5 (Review | Pictures), and it will be available in Vibrant Blue and Mystic Black.

The Charm Sliders is an accessory that fits on the strap of Samsung's Gear Fit. It will be available in a various styles, shapes and colours. Bar colours include Brown, Golden Shadow and Crystal. Dangle styles feature Siam Heart, Light Rose Heart, Crystal Skull, Anthracite Skull, Crystal Star, Blue Star and Golden Shadow Lips.

Earlier Samsung Mobile Korea had posted a video on YouTube teasing the Samsung Galaxy S5 Crystal Edition for a May launch. However, there is no word whether the May release for the Galaxy S5 variant is for the Korean market only, or also intended for a global release.

We expect that the Galaxy S5 Crystal Edition will come with identical specifications as the original version. Samsung in the past had launched the Galaxy S4 Crystal Edition, which was available in limited numbers in selective countries.

LG isai FL With 5.5-inch QHD Display and Snapdragon 801 Launched

LG has finally made its 'isai FL' smartphone official, but for now the device will only be available in Japan. A joint effort between LG and KDDI, a Japanese carrier, the LG isai Fl is one of the first handsets to sport a QHD display, putting an end to company-fuelled speculation that the upcoming LGG3 smartphone would be the first to use LG's newly unveiled display. The price and availability of the handset remains unknown.

Notably, the Oppo Find 7 also sports a QHD display, and went up for pre-order in China this week, with shipping set to begin on May 29. Looking at the dates, and the lack of exact launch dates for the LG isai FL, it is hard to say which would be the first QHD smartphone from a major manufacturer to hit retail shelves.

Now that we know the LG G3 features the same display as the isai FL, it stands to reason that some of the other specifications are similar (notably, the LG G2 was based on the previous LG isai smartphone), giving those anticipating the LG G3 ahead of its launch on May 27 something to salivate over.

The LG isai FL sports the same 5.5-inch AH-IPS LCD QHD (1440x2560 pixel) panel with a massive 538ppi pixel density announced by LG for the G3. The company had also touted the display's NEMKO certification, its 100 percent RGB colour reproduction standard, and how the LTPS (low temperature PolySilicon) smartphone panels are 1.2mm thick with 1.5mm bezels. The thin bezels are quite apparent on the isai FL.

Other specifications listed for the LG isai FL smartphone are Android 4.4 KitKat OS, 13.2-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 32GB of inbuilt storage (microSDXC support up to 128GB), 2GB of RAM and 3000mAh battery capacity. The smartphone runs on the quad-core 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8975AC chipset. The connectivity options include IR, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/c/ac and 4G LTE. In addition to this, the smartphone also includes LG's Knock Code feature, 'isai Motion' and is said to be water-resistant.

The LG isai FL measures 145x76x10.5mm and is available in White, Pink and Blue colour variants. LG isai FL, like the most recent top-end LG smartphones, comes with a rear-button interface for volume control. The small black opening besides the volume controllers is assumed to be the fingerprint sensor. The power/ lock screen button seems to be on the right side of the phone.

Samsung Galaxy S5 review

It's finally here, the Samsung Galaxy S5. A couple of months after its initial launch at MWC in Barcelona, Samsung's latest contender has ditched the bloatware in a bid to take on the likes of the HTC One M8, Apple iPhone 5S andSony Xperia Z2. We've been playing with the new handset day and night for the past few days and we've been terrifying ourselves with the new heart-rate monitor and scanning our digits with the fingerprint scanner. We'll be updating our review shortly with more thorough testing including how it works with the Samsung Gear 2 andSamsung Gear Fit. As we've mentioned, Samsung's latest offering is facing some stiff competition. Last year, we named the HTC One our smartphone of the year and this year HTC has produced and ever better phone, Apple's still going strong with its iPhone 5S and who knows what 2014 could bring in the form of the rumoured iPhone 6.
